Perfect for a quick dinner, this recipe combines ground turkey, chicken, or beef with aromatic ginger and green onions, simmered in a sticky tamari-honey glaze for a deliciously satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 1 pound ground turkey, chicken, or beef
  • 1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup avocado or sesame oil, for cooking and coating hands
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch, divided

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup tamari or soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (cornstarch slurry)

Vegetables & Garnishes

  • 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped ginger
  • Chili flakes, to taste
  • 1-2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  • Additional chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, 1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce, grated ginger, chopped green onions, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix gently until just combined to avoid tough meatballs. Coat your hands lightly with oil to prevent sticking, then roll the mixture into tablespoon-sized meatballs.
  2. Coat Meatballs with Cornstarch: Pour 2 tablespoons of cornstarch into a shallow bowl. Dredge each meatball lightly in the cornstarch, coating evenly. Set aside the remaining 1 tablespoon cornstarch for the slurry.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a small glass jar or bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup tamari or soy sauce, 1/4 cup honey, and 1/3 cup water until well blended.
  4. Cook the Meatballs: Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs carefully and cook, turning occasionally, until they are seared and browned on all sides, about 8 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the broccoli florets and cook until they start to lightly char, about 5 minutes. Stir in the chopped garlic, ginger, and chili flakes, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  6. Combine Sauce and Meatballs: Pour the tamari and honey sauce into the skillet with the vegetables and bring to a boil. Let it boil gently for 3-4 minutes. Return the meatballs to the skillet, tossing them in the sauce. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the meatballs well.
  7. Serve: Serve the sticky honey garlic meatballs and broccoli over steamed rice. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and additional chopped green onions. Optionally serve with your favorite dipping sauce as noted in the recipe.
