4 from 1 review

This Tahini Hot Chocolate is a super creamy, dreamy, and protein-rich beverage perfect for a cozy treat. Combining the rich flavor of cocoa with the nutty depth of tahini and the natural sweetness of medjool dates, this drink is enhanced with collagen peptides and coconut milk powder for added creaminess and protein. Easily adaptable for vegan diets by omitting collagen peptides, it's a warm, nourishing drink that can be quickly made in a high-speed blender or on the stovetop.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp tahini
  • 1 pitted medjool date (or 2 tsp coconut sugar, or other sweetener of choice)
  • ½ tsp maple syrup or honey (if not vegan)
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp collagen peptides (adds creaminess + protein; omit if vegan)
  • 2 Tbsp coconut milk powder (or omit and substitute the hot water with warmed milk of choice)
  • 1 ¼ cup very hot water (or milk of choice)

Toppings (Optional)

  • Coconut whipped cream
  • Drizzle of tahini
  • Dusting of cocoa powder
  • Shaved dark chocolate

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all the ingredients including cocoa powder, tahini, medjool date or your chosen sweetener, maple syrup or honey, sea salt, cinnamon, collagen peptides, coconut milk powder, and hot water or milk.
  2. Blend the Mixture: For best results, add all ingredients to a high-speed blender with a lid that vents steam. Blend until the mixture is creamy, smooth, and fully combined. If you don’t have a blender, heat the mixture on the stovetop but omit the date and substitute with additional sweetener. Alternatively, blend ingredients with cold water or milk first, then warm on the stovetop.
  3. Taste and Adjust: Taste the hot chocolate and adjust for sweetness by adding more honey or maple syrup if desired. Add more cinnamon for warmth, extra cocoa powder for richer chocolate taste, or more coconut milk powder or tahini for enhanced creaminess.
  4. Serve and Garnish: Pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Optionally, top with coconut whipped cream, a drizzle of tahini, a dusting of cocoa powder, or curls of dark chocolate made using a vegetable peeler on a chocolate bar.
  5. Storage and Reheating: Enjoy immediately for the best flavor. Leftovers can be stored sealed in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat gently on the stovetop before serving again.
