Ingredients

Donut Batter

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Filling

  • 1/3 cup Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread (more if desired)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F and thoroughly grease a 24-count mini muffin tin to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Batter: Using a hand or stand mixer, beat vegetable oil with granulated sugar and brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg and continue beating to combine. Stir in baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract. Add half the flour and beat until combined. Pour in the milk and mix again, then add the remaining flour and beat to a smooth batter.
  3. Fill Muffin Cups and Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the mini muffin cups, about a heaping 2 teaspoons per cup. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, until the tops spring back when lightly touched. Remove and cool on a rack for a few minutes.
  4. Prepare Coating and Coat Donut Holes: In two shallow bowls, place the melted butter in one, and combine sugar with cinnamon in the other. Once the donut holes are cool enough to handle, lightly brush each with melted butter and immediately roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  5. Inject Nutella Filling: Fill a piping bag fitted with a small open star tip with Nutella. Gently insert the tip into the side of each donut hole and squeeze in a small amount of Nutella, ensuring a delicious creamy center.

Notes

  • Use a cookie scoop for easy and even portioning of the batter into muffin cups.
  • Allow donut holes to cool sufficiently before brushing with butter to ensure the coating sticks well.
  • Adjust Nutella quantity to preference for more or less filling.
  • Donut holes are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with a plant-based alternative and use a dairy-free milk.
