A bright and creamy appetizer featuring fresh burrata cheese drizzled with a zesty lemon basil olive oil, paired perfectly with warm, crispy garlic toasts. This simple yet elegant recipe comes together in just 15 minutes, making it an ideal starter for any gathering or a delightful snack.

Ingredients

Cheese and Herbs

  • 8 oz burrata cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, sliced
  • 1 lemon (zested and juiced)

Olive Oil

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (divided)

Bread and Flavoring

  • 1 baguette (sliced)
  • 1 clove garlic (halved)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F to prepare for toasting the bread slices.
  2. Prepare garlic toasts: Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, then rub each slice with the halved garlic clove to infuse them with garlic flavor. Bake in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes until the edges turn golden and slightly crisp.
  3. Make lemon basil olive oil: In a small bowl, combine the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil with the sliced fresh basil and the zest and juice of the lemon. Stir well to marry the flavors.
  4. Assemble and serve: Place the burrata cheese in a small or medium serving bowl and gently slice open the outer layer to expose its creamy interior. Pour the lemon-basil olive oil mixture over the top, letting it soak into the cheese for a fresh, tangy flavor. Serve immediately alongside the warm garlic toasts.

Notes

  • For an extra pop of flavor, sprinkle a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes over the lemon basil oil.
  • Burrata is best served fresh; consume within a few hours for optimal creaminess.
  • You can substitute the baguette with ciabatta or sourdough slices for variation.
  • To make the garlic flavor milder, rub the bread with garlic after baking instead of before.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast between warm toasts and cool, creamy burrata.
