Delicious Honey Garlic Chicken Tenders cooked to golden perfection and tossed in a flavorful, sticky honey garlic sauce. This quick and easy recipe combines tender chicken with a balance of sweet, savory, and mildly spicy flavors, perfect for a weeknight dinner served over jasmine rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice.

Ingredients

For the Chicken

  • ¼ cup (30g) all purpose flour (gluten free option suggested)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 ½ pounds (650g) chicken tenderloins (mini chicken fillets in the UK)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

For the Sauce

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce (tamari sauce for gluten free)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice)
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, and ground black pepper. Dredge each chicken tender in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour to avoid clumping.
  2. Cook Chicken in Batches: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Working in two batches to avoid overcrowding, cook the chicken tenders on each side for 2-3 minutes until a golden brown crust forms and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Remove cooked chicken onto a plate, then melt the remaining butter and cook the second batch of chicken tenders the same way.
  3. Deglaze the Pan: Add about ¼ cup of water to the hot skillet and scrape off the browned bits stuck to the bottom. Let the liquid reduce slightly to concentrate the flavor.
  4. Make the Sauce: Add minced garlic to the pan and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in honey, soy sauce (or tamari), apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice), and crushed red pepper flakes. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and simmers gently.
  5. Combine Chicken and Sauce: Return all the cooked chicken tenders to the skillet and flip them in the sauce to ensure every piece is well coated and heated through.
  6. Serve: Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot over jasmine rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice for a wholesome meal.

Notes

  • To keep this recipe gluten free, use gluten-free flour and tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • Adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes according to your spice preference or omit for a mild flavor.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches a safe internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
