A tender and flavorful Crock Pot BBQ Brisket slow-cooked to perfection with a homemade spice rub and a sweet, tangy BBQ sauce. This easy recipe yields juicy brisket that can be sliced or shredded and served hot with your favorite sides, on a bun, or atop a baked potato. Optionally finished in the oven for a delicious smoky crust.

Ingredients

Brisket Rub

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Main Ingredients

  • 4 lb brisket (see note)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (Sweet Baby Ray's recommended)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth

Instructions

  1. Make the brisket rub: In a bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and cayenne pepper. Mix thoroughly to create an even spice blend.
  2. Prepare the brisket: Rub the spice mixture evenly over all sides of the brisket, ensuring the meat is well coated for maximum flavor penetration.
  3. Set up crock pot: Pour the BBQ sauce and beef broth into the bottom of the crock pot and stir lightly to combine. Place the rubbed brisket directly on top of this sauce mixture.
  4. Slow cook: Cover the crock pot with its lid and cook on the low setting for 6 to 8 hours, or until the brisket is tender and fully cooked. Check doneness by ensuring the meat easily shreds or slices.
  5. Finish and serve: Remove the brisket from the crock pot and slice or shred as desired. Return the meat to the crock pot to soak in the sauce, keeping it warm until serving.
  6. Optional oven finish: For a smoky BBQ crust, place the cooked brisket on a foil-lined baking sheet and bake at 450°F for 15 minutes. This will darken the outside and crisp the edges while keeping the interior juicy.
  7. Serving suggestion: Serve the brisket hot with your favorite sides, on a sandwich bun, or atop a baked potato for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • Use a whole 4 lb brisket for best results.
  • Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce is recommended for authentic flavor, but any preferred BBQ sauce can be used.
  • The optional oven step adds a delicious crust but can be skipped if you prefer.
  • Cooking times may vary based on slow cooker model; check meat tenderness starting at 6 hours.
  • Leftover brisket can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
