These Cheddar Herb Biscuits combine the rich flavors of mild cheddar cheese, fresh thyme, rosemary, and parsley for a savory, aromatic treat perfect for breakfast or as a side. Made with Bisquick for ease and baked to golden perfection, they are brushed with a flavorful butter mixture that adds a delicious finishing touch.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups Bisquick
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Dried crushed rosemary (or 2 teaspoons fresh minced)

Dairy and Cheese

  • 2/3 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Mild cheddar cheese (freshly grated)
  • 3 tablespoons Butter (melted)

Herbs

  • 1 tablespoon Fresh thyme (chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons Fresh parsley (minced)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare it for baking the biscuits, ensuring a hot environment for a perfect rise and crust.
  2. Mix dry ingredients and cheese: In a large bowl, combine the Bisquick, grated cheddar cheese, dried crushed rosemary, and fresh thyme. Stir these together to evenly distribute the herbs and cheese throughout the biscuit mix.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gently stir in the milk until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing to keep the biscuits light and tender.
  4. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it about 10 times to develop structure without toughening the dough.
  5. Shape the biscuits: Roll the dough into a ½ inch thick disk. Use a 4-inch round cookie cutter or similar-sized cup or glass to cut out biscuit shapes.
  6. Bake the biscuits: Place the cut biscuits onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown on the top and bottom.
  7. Prepare butter topping: While baking, stir together the melted butter, minced fresh parsley, and garlic salt in a small bowl.
  8. Brush biscuits with butter: Once the biscuits are warm out of the oven, brush them generously with the parsley-garlic butter to add flavor and moisture.

Notes

  • For best results, use freshly grated cheddar cheese rather than pre-shredded, which can have anti-caking agents.
  • You can substitute fresh rosemary for the dried if available, adjusting quantity as noted for a more vibrant flavor.
  • If desired, chill the dough briefly before cutting to make handling easier.
  • These biscuits are best served warm and fresh out of the oven.
  • Bisquick mix contains wheat and dairy; this recipe is not gluten-free or dairy-free.
