Applebee's Blondie is a decadent, rich dessert bar featuring a buttery, brown sugar base loaded with white chocolate chips and nuts. Baked to perfection for a soft, gooey center or a firmer texture, these blondies are topped with a luscious maple cream sauce and served warm with vanilla ice cream, making a perfect comfort dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

Blondie Base

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar
  • 1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Maple Cream Sauce

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350℉ (175℃) and grease an 8x8 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, beat the melted butter and brown sugar together until well combined. Add the large egg and extra egg yolk plus vanilla extract, and continue beating until the mixture is light in color and fluffy.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually fold these dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Then gently stir in the white chocolate chips and chopped nuts to evenly distribute.
  4. Bake the Blondies: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 35 minutes. For a gooey center, bake closer to 25 minutes; for firmer bars, bake towards 35 minutes. The blondies will continue to set as they cool.
  5. Prepare Maple Cream Sauce: While the blondies bake, whisk together the softened butter, powdered sugar, cream cheese, and maple syrup in a small bowl until smooth. For a thinner consistency, heat the sauce briefly in the microwave.
  6. Serve: Once the blondies have cooled slightly, serve them warm topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled generously with the maple cream sauce for an indulgent finish.

Notes

  • Use either pecans or walnuts based on your preference or availability.
  • Ensure butter is properly softened for the maple cream sauce to achieve a smooth texture.
  • Baking time affects texture—reduce time for gooier bars or increase for firmer blondies.
  • Warm the maple cream sauce slightly if you prefer it thinner and easier to drizzle.
  • For an extra touch, sprinkle a few nuts on top of the blondies before baking for texture.
  • Store leftover blondies covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to 5 days.
